Well, I want to take a moment and say congratulations on making it through the first quarter of 2026. The first three months of 2026 have brought growth, development, and challenges in my life. I started this year with a clear vision and well-defined intentions. While I have been focused on my growth, I have been met with opposition and resistance at another level. While I am familiar with the importance of discipline, consistency, resilience, and a bulletproof mindset, there is something about this season that is very unfamiliar. If you follow my work, you know these pillars have made my life strong and empowered me for sustainability. However, I am learning that the pressure and price that come with advancement are unique to every individual. I am writing to empower you to stay the course and seize change in your life.

  1. You need to eliminate distractions. One of the things I have had to be very intentional about over the last few months is eliminating the distractions in my life and honing my focus. If you are not careful and conscious, you will get consumed and carried away by things that do not even align with your vision or mission. In fact, the consequence of being distracted is that you begin to drift. The danger is drifing it that it takes you in the opposite direction of your destiny. We often think of distractions as bad things in our lives. However, sometimes distractions are good things that stand in the way of our growth, development, and advancement. Regardless of what the distraction is, you must be able to identify it, turn down the noise, and focus on what really matters in your life. One thing you must understand is that distractions are different for every person. In my life, distractions are often the internal dialogues and psychological constructs that do not support who I am becoming and what I am building. When my internal dialogue is disempowering and my thoughts are not constructive, it creates cycles of frustration and failure in my life. Distractions will always show up in your life. The key to dominating in every season is to create distance between you and everything that attempts to distract you from your purpose.

  2. Give careful attention to your mind. As someone who has been doing the work for decades, people assume that mastery of the mind is automatic. However, I can tell you from decades of experience that I have to work on my mind every single day. In fact, I recently found myself replaying a particular loop in my mind over and over again. Thankfully, I have been doing this work long enough that I can catch myself when my mind is becoming scattered. It became clear to me that I was not being intentional about the thoughts that I was allowing to occupy mental real estate. Therefore, I had to take control of my mind and bring it back into proper alignment. If you are not intentional about your mind, it will become a battlefield instead of a beautiful garden. Many years ago, I made a decision that my mind would become a beautiful garden. As a result, I have been intentional about cultivating destiny-affirming, life-altering, and possibility-activating thoughts. Whatever you plant in the mind is going to produce for you. The attention you give your mind will determine the health of your mind. Conversely, the neglect of your mind will result in the deterioration of your mind. Your mind must be managed and mastered.

  3. We must redefine discipline. If you ask most people what discipline is, they will tell you that it is the ability to work hard, to be consistent, to remain committed to a particular thing. While I am not saying this is wrong, I am saying that the older I get, the more my definition of discipline evolves. Discipline is more than working hard, being consistent, staying committed, or even having endurance. Discipline is the currency of an overcoming life. If you are familiar with my story, then you know I have had my share of disappointments and failures in life. I've been knocked down, but I did not stay down. I have had so many things try to knock the life out of me. However, I have learned how to bounce back from setbacks. It would have been very easy for me to quit or throw in the towel. Ultimately, I have never settled for mediocrity, and I have been dedicated to mastery in every aspect of my life. Discipline is more than willpower or determination. Discipline is a medium of exchange. It is an exchange we make with pain in order to make progress in our lives. Moreover, discipline is the exchange we make with discomfort in order to embrace growth. Essentially, discipline is the exchange we make with inconvenience in order to improve the quality of our lives. When we see discipline as a currency, we understand that transformation does not happen without tradeoffs.

  4. Discipline is the cost of progress. As we embark upon the second quarter of 2026, I want to be real with you about your life and your goals. If you are anything like me, then I am sure that you have big goals and grand dreams for your life. Unfortunately, most people have been lied to and told to simply never give up. While this sounds inspirational and motivational, the reality is that there are some things that you do need to give up. In fact, some things must be given up in order for you to go up and grow up. Your ability to let go becomes the catalyst to living your greatest life. What are you willing to let go of to live a greater life in 2026 and beyond? This is one of the important questions that I asked myself at the end of the first quarter. My answer both challenged me and stretched me as I developed my strategy and adjusted my plans for the second quarter. What I have discovered is that everybody wants to make progress; however, nobody wants to pay the cost that comes with making progress. Your potential remains locked and untapped until pressure is put on you to develop. If you push your limits, build your capacity, and challenge your excuses, you will ultimately collide with greatness. You will never benefit from what you do not value. You will never pursue what is not precious to you. Discipline not only moves your life forward. Discipline is the only way you embrace your future.
