In just a few weeks, we will be ending the first quarter of 2025. If your schedule has been anything like mine, the first three months of 2025 have been exciting, chaotic and a balancing act. It has taken a great level of discipline, mental focus and consistency to ensure that I am concentrating on my vision and executing my goals. The thing that I am telling everyone is that if you want to live at the next level you must have momentum in your life. From speaking with people from all walks of life, I have come to understand that we all have different definitions of what momentum is. I want to share some insights around momentum and how to sustain it in your life.
You need to define what momentum is to you. As I just stated, if you talk to ten different people, I am sure you will get ten different definitions of what momentum is. However, I want to make it clear that momentum is not obtained being lazy, inconsistent and mediocre. Mediocrity is born from consistent action and commitment. If you do not take the time to define what momentum is to you, then you will have no way to measure the progress you are making and the results that you are getting in your life. Momentum is the ability to sustain a dimension with the same level of discipline and diligence. Ultimately, momentum is the ability to go the distance and to eliminate any distraction that threatens your progress. In other words momentum is something you create by keeping your commitments to yourself. This year momentum is something that you are going to have to build into your life.
You need to have clear vision of where you are going. Honestly, if you do not have clear goals or a well-defined vision at this point in this year, then you are not really serious about your progress or reaching your full potential. You can get mad at me for that statement but it is the truth. If a habit is established in 21 days, then you have at this point settled into a rhythm and routine for the year. If you do not have a clearly defined vision, then I want you to sit down and write your vision out for the year. Do not set too many goals for yourself. In fact, I would say set about 5-7 key goals for yourself this year and frame your vision around it. Also, if you feel like you are off track with your vision, then you need to sit down, reflect, assess and make the necessary adjustments. If you are not clear about where you are going, then you will not make progress or reach your destination. Your life does not follow hope and ambition. Your life follows strategy and execution. Make your vision a priority so you can ultimately make it a reality. Vision will set your boundaries and shape what is possible for you in 2025 and beyond. The greatest cure for idleness is intentionality.
You must be willing to take consistent action. While we could cover a myriad of factors, the reality is that you cannot have momentum without action. I'm sure you have heard this before but it is worth repeating. Either you will have results or you will have excuses but you cannot have both. You must decide what you want most. More importantly, you must be willing to sacrifice what you want today for what will ultimately matter tomorrow. No goal, dream or vision will ever be realized without commitment and action on your part. Action is the proof that you value the goal and that you honor your potential. Anything that you are unwilling to pursue is not a priority to you. Every single day of your life you must take action. Imperfection action trumps inconsistency every single time. Your consistency is the currency of change, development, advancement and mastery in your life. Consistent action makes vision manageable, goals attainable and dreams tangible.
You must hold yourself accountable. If you have followed my work, then you know that I talk a lot about self-mastery and realizing your full potential. From decades of work and experience, I can tell you that you will never realize your potential without accountability. First of all, you have to practice self accountability. What do I mean by that? Self-accountability is the ability to be honest, transparent and responsible for your decisions, goals and outcomes. Next, you need accountability systems in your life. This means that you need individuals that are not fascinated with you and will hold your feet to the fire. People that are willing to challenge your excuses and mediocrity so that you can realize your full potential. You need to have accountability partners and you need to share your goals with them. Then you need to schedule time to speak with this person on an ongoing basis. Accountability safeguards us from becoming comfortable and complacent. More importantly, accountability challenges the way we look at our goals, execute our vision and manage our time. Accountability shapes your advancement and gives you access to new dimensions.
