As many of you know, this has been a busy time for me as I am currently doing promotions for my newest book. I was thinking about what to write about for my last blog post of the year. While I could cover a myriad of different topics, I wanted to write another piece about finishing the year strong. Every December, I launch my finish-the-year strong campaign to empower people around the world to position for a strong finish. This year is no different. So I thought it would be great to share some insights with you that will help you finish this year strong and start the new year empowered.
Be honest about where you are. Many people avoid taking time to assess the year. Honestly, most people do not want to know how they did because they know that they did not accomplish their goals or move toward their dreams. While denial may make you feel good temporarily, denial is ultimately robbing you of the life of your dreams. Instead of living in denial, I want you to dare to face harsh truths about your life. At the end of the day, nobody rewards mediocrity and you will only be rewarded for mastery. As we go into the final days of 2022, I want you to be truthful with yourself about your productivity, progress, and how you honored the seed of your potential. Dishonesty is a sure way to live a disempowered life. On the other hand, truthfulness is a catalyst for transformation. What you are courageous enough to confront you are empowered to correct.
Be willing to close old chapters in your life. While you may not be pleased with your productivity or progress this year, the wonderful thing about it is that you have the power to change your own life. You do not have to wait until January 1st to make changes in your life. You can start making changes right now. The first step to changing your life is being willing to close old chapters. You have to stop living in the narrative of your past and start living in the narrative of what is possible for your life. In other words, you must be willing to say goodbye to old seasons, old cycles, and old relationships in your life. Most of all, you must be willing to part ways with everything that is standing in the way of your progress and productivity. Closeout 2022 in epic fashion by daring to let go of everything that is limiting your growth and sabotaging your greatness. Old chapters will never create new opportunities in your life. What you are willing to detach from will define what is possible for you in 2023 and beyond. So dare to pen a new story for your life. You have the power to write a bold and daring story of greatness and victory. As this chapter ends, you are presented with a unique opportunity to create the next best version of yourself.
You cannot afford to live your life without a vision. It is this time of the year when many people start to feel depressed and unhappy. It begins to dawn on them that they have lived the last twelve months in a holding pattern. They have lived an entire cycle of repeats which has now led to regrets. Ultimately, what I want you to understand is that every year will be a repeat of the year before if you do not take the time to create a vision for your life. When you live your life without vision, you spend your entire life serving the visions of other people. Vision is powerful because it gives you the ability to script the possibilities of what your life can become. Moreover, vision is powerful because it is the currency of your future. You will never step into a tomorrow that you did not first see today. Vision is the ability to use the power of visualization and imagination to bring unborn realities into the now. Within the heart of every human being lives a dream waiting for expression and realization. The absence of vision produces an absence of meaning. A life lived without meaning will be defined by misery. Vision dictates your activities, defines your moments, and ultimately determines the productivity of your life. To live without vision is to go through life blind to possibilities and opportunities. Vision will shape the course of your life and determine what you do with the seed of your potential. Spend some time writing your vision for 2023. Where do you see yourself? Where will you go? Who do you want to meet? What are your plans for personal growth and development? What investments are you making in your professional development and advancement? Vision will distinguish you and set you on a collision course with prophetic destiny.
You must close the gaps. As I thought about how to close this piece, I had a ton of different ideas swirling in my head. However, as I stopped to think for a moment I realized that I had failed to cover an important concept. After you have written out your vision for the new year, I want you to take some time to assess the knowledge and skill gaps in your life. If you have not already, I want you to grab a copy of my tenth book Next: The Emergence of the History Shapers. This is not my brand-new book but this is the book I released in 2021. Why do I want you to read it? 2023 will be a year of great turbulence and uncertainty in the world. If you want to have the edge, then you need to close the gaps in the areas of knowledge and skills. Identify the knowledge that is lacking in your life and then commit to making the investments to close the knowledge gap. Next, I want you to examine the skill gaps in your life. Many people give up on their dreams because they do not know how to get from where they are to where they want to be. I want you to identify the skills that you need to shift from mediocrity to mastery. In order to win in 2023, you are going to have to be a gap filler. This means that you are going to need to be ahead of the curve. Knowledge and skills are what will distinguish you and cause you to dominate in your field or industry. Start learning so you can start leveraging your capacity for greatness. An epic finish is marked by growth and development. The difference in seasons is what you are willing to learn. Gaps can only be closed through growth.
