Seasons: The Case for Change

First of all, I want to say welcome to Autumn! Everyone that truly knows me will tell you that this is one of my favorite times of the year. I always get excited when the season changes, the weather becomes cooler, and the holidays start to approach. While we are often resistant to change, it is important to understand that change is part of life. The more responsive we become to change the better our lives become. I hope these insights will empower you to embrace new seasons and invite change into your life.

  1. You cannot afford to stay comfortable. Honestly, I have yet to meet a person who does not like to be comfortable. It would be incredible if we knew what every season held and what lay on the horizon for our lives. Unfortunately, life is filled with uncertainty, and we do not always know what life will bring. In those uncertain times, it becomes easy to cling to what is familiar and comfortable. However, I have lived long enough to know that comfort is one of the greatest threats to growth. More importantly, comfort will always cripple change. It is expensive to allow comfort to cripple your life and sabotage your advancement. Your development must always take priority over your comfort. Essentially, comfort will put you at ease, but it will never elevate your life.

  2. Change cannot infiltrate a restricted mind. Years ago, I was believing and hoping to see a certain thing manifest in my life. In fact, I even started to make progress on this particular goal. However, as time went on, I realized that every single time I would take a step forward, I would get knocked several steps back. I found myself frustrated and bewildered about why I was not making progress. Then I had an epiphany that my own mind was the barrier that was standing in the way of manifestation. In other words, change cannot infiltrate a restricted mind. It does not matter what dream, goal, desire, or intention you may have. If your mind is closed to the idea of change, you will never see certain things become a reality for you. The mind remains closed until it is challenged and stretched to embrace new possibilities. A closed mind will never produce a fulfilling life.

  3. Change is a gift you must welcome into your life. After your mind opens to the idea of change, you must then welcome change into your life. At the time that I am writing this, I am in the middle of a major life makeover. I have deconstructed my life and my business piece by piece. While it sounded like fun in the beginning, it quickly became overwhelming and uncomfortable. However, the results have been beyond anything I could have ever imagined. On the other side of discomfort is manifestation and dream realization. The point I am trying to make is that change is a gift that you must welcome into your life. In essence, you have to become disturbed with the present condition of your life. You must become so disturbed that the possibility of change becomes more important than maintaining the status quo. Change is only welcome into your life when your frustration with mediocrity challenges you to stretch and embrace more for your life. Change is always extending an invitation to you; however, change must be embraced and accommodated.

  4. Change must become a way of life. As many of you know, I am currently resetting my life and rebranding my business. While I am proud of the results, I will be the first to admit that I was very resistant to the idea. Why? I knew the benefits of it; however, I also knew the amount of work that would come with making these changes in my life. We protest change because we do not want to pay the price that comes with change. After several decades of life, you come to understand that the only thing constant in life is change. When you really understand this, you will stop resisting change, and you will start embracing change in every aspect of your life. Every season of your life will demand change. More importantly, every next version of yourself will demand change. When you lean into change, the result is always growth, development, and mastery. Conversely, when you protest change, the outcome is frustration, limitations, and stagnation. Change is ultimately how we break out of the old and break our way into the next best version of ourselves.
