Time: Valuing the Gift That Life Is

As I write to you, I am just coming off of an incredibly busy week of travel. It was an amazing week filled with so many incredible moments. However, I now have to take some time to rest and reset from everything. As some of you know, I am just a few weeks away from another birthday. This time of the year always causes me to reflect on my life and the lessons that I have learned along the way. Most importantly, I am reminded of the fact that time is a very valuable gift that we cannot afford to waste. This year I have been intentional about forcing myself to live outside of my comfort zone. I have tested my limits, pushed my boundaries, and embraced new possibilities in every area of my life. It is my hope that these insights will resonate with you and empower you to make the most of your life!

  1. Take some time to reflect on your life. When it comes to birthdays, I talk to a lot of people that get really sad and depressed. In fact, I have even had some people ask me: does it not bother you that you are getting older? I think that they are shocked when I respond with an emphatic no. I embrace every new year of life with gratitude and grace. I believe that every person should take time to reflect on their life. In other words, you should look back at the last year and beyond to see what choices you have made, what lessons you have learned, and how you have grown as a person. Without reflection, it is impossible to know where we have been or where we are going. So spend some time reflecting on your life and your journey. As I reflect on my life, I can see the highs and lows, the successes and failures, and the development and growth that has taken place. It has also shaped me and empowered me to become a better version of myself.

  2. Make sure that you are maximizing the moments of your life. If we are all honest, we have spent too much time revisiting the past or living in the future. However, we have not taken enough time to live in the present. We have all heard the expression maximizing the moments of your life. As I delve deeper into that expression, I have concluded that to maximize the moments of your life you have to be present in your own life. You would be amazed at the number of people that are living life unconsciously. In other words, they are living life without being conscious or having clarity. They are going through the motions but they are not maximizing the moments of their lives. I want to challenge you today. To not just let life pass you by. I want you to be present in your life and the lives of your loved ones. I believe one of the most important gifts you can give to another person is the gift of your presence. Moments are not meant to be squandered. Moments are meant to be maximized. In other words, you should squeeze every moment out of every day. See moments as an opportunity to be present and to be engaged in the miracle of life.

  3. You can only live your own life. While this sounds obvious, you would be amazed at the number of people that are not living their own lives. If you are not living your own life then whose life are you living? You are living the script and the narrative that other people have written for you. There is no bondage like living your life enslaved to the opinions and expectations of other people. Time is too precious and life is too valuable to be miserable and unhappy trying to please everyone else while dishonoring yourself. Make a non-negotiable decision that you are going to live your own life. I can assure you that you will get pushback and resistance. However, if you never stand up for yourself, you will never have the strength to become who you were born to be. It's your life and your dreams. So why not have the courage to go after the life that you want? You cannot live anybody else's life. Furthermore, you will never be fulfilled until you resolve to live your life to the fullest.

  4. Never discount the value of your life. As you have heard me say before, many people are imprisoned in cycles of insignificance. They do not feel worthy or that they deserve a better life. However, as you take the time to do the inner work, you discover that your life has profound significance and you are worthy. Most of all, you awaken to the truth that your life has extraordinary value. Refuse to allow those that are blind to your greatness to make you question your value. I want you to know that your value does not change because of their inability to perceive it. As you become more self-aware, you will understand your worth and you will attract relationships in your life that value you for who you are and not for who they want you to be. It's one of the most liberating decisions you can ever make. With that said, I am excited about another year of life and significance. Why is that? My life matters and my life has a tremendous impact. I will continue to use the gift of my life to serve others and contribute to the transformation of the world. Refuse to ever discount the value of your life. Devaluation always leads to dishonor.
